Starting a Community Champions Program

Did you know that recycled cans, drink boxes and plastic beverage bottles are turned into everything from carpet, to coat hangers, to car parts!

Here’s how you can set up a Community Champions program:

1. Designate a Recycling Coordinator to oversee the program and motivate people to recycle.
2. Order your recycling bins and bags online.
3. Arrange for collection of the recycling bins.
4. Place the recycling bins in high-traffic areas – beside a garbage bin seems to work best. Let people know where they are.
5. Educate people visiting your area regarding the beverage containers they can recycle. A quick reference poster will be on the front of your bin. Introduce the program and create awareness, for example with posters, emails and notices in your newsletter.
