- 10¢ for containers 1L or less
- 25¢ for containers over 1L
When you return your refundable beverage containers to a nearby bottle depot, you’re:
- Reducing landfill waste
- Saving energy
- Supporting Alberta’s circular economy
- Protecting our environment for future generations
- Give them a rinse.
Empty all leftover liquids and give containers a quick rinse, especially milk and juice cartons, to prevent sticky messes and bad odours. - Leave caps and labels on.
You do not need to remove plastic caps, lids, or product labels when returning items to a depot. - Do not crush.
Keep cans and plastic bottles uncrushed so automated counting and sorting machines can process them properly. If you must do so to save space, be sure to flatten them on their sides, rather than top-down, to ensure that identifying features can still be seen. - Pre-sort to save time.
Separating your items by material type (glass, plastic, metal) or size before you arrive helps speed up your visit.
