Our Impact

ABCRC has proudly served as the Collection System Agent appointed by beverage manufacturers using non-refillable beverage containers in Alberta since 1995. Every year, we ensure that the more than two billion regulated beverage containers returned to depots by Albertans are collected, processed and sent for recycling, making our program one of the largest and most effective in North America.

Sustainability through Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principals is the driving force behind our successful operation. Read more about our efforts in our annual Sustainability Report.

ABCRC strives not only to continuously improve the return rates on Alberta’s beverage containers through efficient operations and effective governance, but also through public awareness – advertising, education and community partnerships. Read more about how we increase returns, support our communities and promote the environmental, economic and social benefits of recycling through our Community Partnership Program, which will launch in early 2026.

Environmental
Stewardship

Since the appointment of ABCRC as the collection system agent, the focus on protecting Alberta’s environment has increased.

In addition to helping municipalities and the provincial government meet their waste diversion goals, ABCRC is committed to reducing its own environmental footprint and operating in an environmentally conscious manner that exceeds what is required under the Regulation.

Social
Engagement

ABCRC fundamentally believes that social stewardship benefits the organizations it serves, its employees and the community in which it operates.

ABCRC takes a unique approach to supporting valuable community organizations through sponsorship, infrastructure donations and fundraising opportunities that build community support of Beverage Container recycling.

Responsible
Governance

As the agent responsible for fulfilling the regulated responsibilities of beverage manufacturers in Alberta, ABCRC is relied on by some of the most successful beverage companies in the world to manage their end-of-lifecycle environmental responsibilities and to help minimize the impact and cost of the beverage container recycling on Albertans.
